  • IDENTIFYING WEB EXPLOITS:

    Students will learn to identify common and unique web exploits and be familiar with concepts such as SQL injections. Along with the principles of social engineering and reconnaissance so students will understand the contextual drivers behind common exploits.

    AUDITS AND ASSESSMENTS:

    Given the number of security frameworks such as NIST, ISO, COBIT, students will learn to map security infrastructure and processes. The modules will cover many frameworks and train students to work with both top-down and bottom-up security programs.

    FORENSIC ANALYSIS:

    Along with identifying common attacks, students will be able to conduct surface level forensics and learn about memory dumps and packet analysis of PCAP files. Students will also learn the basics of network and traffic analysis with the ability to read logs and identity anomalous patterns.

    CRYPTOGRAPHY:

    Decrypting encrypted strings using cryptography, including Caesar cipher, Substitution crypto, and others, is an attractive skill in cybersecurity. Given the rise of quantum and AI driven attacks, students will be exposed to modern cryptographic standards.

    REVERSE ENGINEERING:

    Typically requires learners to examine a particular binary file, such as an APK, PE, or ELF file. Decompilation, disassembly through static or dynamic analysis, or other methods of reverse engineering will be taught through real-life scenarios to capture a key successfully.

    GENERAL ANALYSIS AND EXPOSURE TO TOOLS: Students will be able to identify and utilize commonly used technology stacks by security professionals and be familiar with common operating systems, tools and techniques - like Kali Linux, Arch Linux Black Arc.

Looking to enter the exciting world of cybersecurity?

The Newcomer Cybersecurity Talent Pod Program is a free sixteen week full-time program providing introductory education on cybersecurity, and related technical skills, with hands-on experiential scenario-based learning delivered by Computek College. The program will also make connections to potential employers in the field, and provide holistic vocational wrap-around support in the form of mental health services, language courses, resume writing and interview prep, settlement services, soft skills development, and career counselling.

Program Eligibility:

• Newcomers, immigrant women, permanent residents or refugees who also identify as a member of the LGBTQ2+ community, or racialized youth.
