CBC Here and Now Radio Appearance with CEO Surranna Sandy

On November 6 2023, SfC CEO Surranna Sandy had the opportunity to represent Skills for Change live on CBC’s 'Here and Now' radio show. The discussion centred around two significant developments in our province:

  • Mandatory Salary Disclosure: Surranna spoke about the impending mandate for employers to include salary ranges in job postings. This transparency is particularly beneficial for the women, immigrants and newcomers we serve, helping to ensure they receive fair compensation and understand the financial landscape of their new community. For women in particular it is an important step to reducing the gender wage gap.

  • AI in Hiring Processes: The use of Artificial Intelligence in recruitment was another focal point. While AI can streamline hiring, it also presents challenges, such as potential biases that can inadvertently affect marginalized groups, including the very people we aim to help. Surranna highlighted the need for careful consideration and regulation to prevent such technology from perpetuating inequality.
