MEET Ajay Vallabhan, Manager, Events & Communications at Skills for Change!

Tell us a bit about yourself

I have over 11 years of experience under my belt. My journey has led me to specialize in Marketing/Events (MBA), and I'm genuinely passionate about crafting impactful campaigns.

On a personal note, I'm a proud father of two amazing kids. Beyond the world of marketing, you'll often find me soaking up precious moments with my family or exploring the latest dad jokes.

Can you share a bit about your journey to Canada?

Leaving behind a stable job and uprooting our well-settled life to embark on a journey to Canada was undoubtedly a challenging decision. In 2019, my family and I took the bold step to pursue immigration, investing significant effort and time in the process. Securing our Permanent Residency (PR) last year marked a crucial milestone, and this year, we finally made the move to Canada. The initial days were tough, and at times, it seemed like a daunting decision. However, as I type this now, I can confidently say that choosing Canada was the right decision for both me and my family. The journey may have been challenging, but the experiences and opportunities unfolding in Canada make it all worthwhile.

What was life like in your home country?

Before my marriage, I resided in India, surrounded by my close-knit family, and there's truly nothing like the warmth of being with your loved ones. Life was fulfilling, people were incredibly kind and welcoming. Subsequently, a significant portion of my professional journey unfolded in Bahrain, which also brought its own set of positive experiences. Living there exposed me to diverse cultures, fostering personal growth and enriching my career. The exposure to different perspectives allowed me to learn extensively and instilled a sense of discipline in both my personal and professional life.

How did you get involved with Skills for Change?

I first learned about Skills for Change while I was in Bahrain, actively seeking job opportunities in Canada. Recommendations from my network suggested enrolling with SFC, and I was ready to take that step. However, fate intervened, and I landed a job soon after arriving, which meant I didn't initially approach Skills for Change.

It wasn't until I was called for an interview that I discovered more about the organization, and it couldn't have been a better fit. The role resonated with my deep-seated passion for working in events and helping people. It was a realization that my eagerness to make a positive impact had led me to a place where I could align my passion with my career.

Is there a particular moment or memory that stands out for you?

The moment I cradled my newborn for the first time was absolutely surreal – a profound experience of witnessing the creation of life. This memory is undoubtedly my most cherished and holds a special place in my heart.

What are you most proud of in life?

I take pride in my resilience. I have consistently fought for what I needed in my life and ensured that I achieved my goals in the process.

What inspires you?

My greatest inspiration is my wife, who, for the past many years, has devoted herself to the continuous care of our children. She selflessly stepped away from her career to manage our home and family.

What's the best advice you've received in life?

The best piece of advice that has significantly impacted me is to focus on what I can control and let go of what is beyond my influence, fostering a sense of inner peace and resilience.

Can you tell us something interesting about yourself that not many people know of?

I possess a powerful reflex, often earning me the title of "superhero" from my son due to the numerous times I've swiftly saved him from potential falls.

Is there anything you'd like to share with us?
