The United Way
Helping Hands Day
1997
This year 15 volunteers participated in Helping Hands Day. Senior management, human resource specialists and consultants from Canada Post, Accountants Executive Search and ADP Brokerage Services came to Skills for Change to provide the much needed service of conducting practice interviews with our clients.

The two half day sessions represented a total of 27 volunteer hours that would not have been so easy to facilitate without the support of the United Way.

Skills for Change provides services and training that ultimately lead to employment. This is why activities such as practice interviews are critical to the success of our clients. We developed questions specific to the backgrounds of the 27 clients who were interviewed. Some interviews were videotaped, others recorded, so that the clients could share their experience with the particular group they train with. All participants received written feedback from the volunteers, this included a critique of the résumé as well as the outcome of the interview, weaknesses and strengths.

A special thanks goes out to our volunteers:

Jacqueline Aldred, Anna-Marie Hubbard, Paula Porter, Cindy Hatty, David Roy, Gerry Mathieu, John Lee, Brian Wilson, Gwen Kenyon, David Wilson, Sandor Boros, Andy Deslandes and Harry Sabharwal.
