"The Beach - My Second Home"

A PHOTO EXHIBITION, CELEBRATION & TORONTO COMMUNITY FUNDRAISER
PART OF THE "CELEBRATE TORONTO" SERIES

by Dave Lovelock
Manager, Resource and Business Development

We are pleased to let you know about an exciting new initiative called “Celebrate Toronto” that a valued corporate client of SfC, www.travelandtransitions.com,has launched.

In addition, a portion of the revenues from photo and book sales will go to Skills for Change to help support our programs and services to newcomers in Toronto.

I invite you to read on and, if you can, attend the kick-off of this FREE event being held in ‘The Beach” at Gelato Milano, 2156 Queen Street East on March 14, 2007, 7:00 pm (including a free gelato and panini tasting!)

As a travel journalist and creator of www.travelandtransitions.com, Susanne Pacher gets to travel to many interesting places across the world where she writes about the people behind the destinations. Whenever she is not out of town she writes about Toronto, this multicultural microcosm that is truly a world within a city. After she returned from an international trip last year, Susanne experienced a veritable “light bulb moment”: she realized that Toronto is a really special place and that she wanted to give something back to this city that has provided her, an immigrant herself, with so much opportunity.

So she decided to launch the “Celebrate Toronto” project which will encompass an extensive article collection, as well as a series of neighbourhood portraits and photo exhibitions. Susanne plans to discover Toronto neighbourhood by neighbourhood, and her inaugural “Celebrate Toronto” project is a photo exhibition and story-telling series entitled “The Beach – My Second Home.” After the Beach, neighbourhoods such as Chinatown – Kensington, Little Italy, Little India and others will follow. Susanne is planning to do one or two neighbourhood portraits a year, featuring local community organizations, volunteers, philanthropists, artists, merchants, restaurateurs and enlightened entrepreneurs – people and organizations that make our city special.

The articles will be published in a book and a portion of revenues from photo and book sales will be shared with several Toronto community organizations including Skills for Change, Scadding Court Community Centre and Centre 55. So join Susanne Pacher in her first Toronto neighbourhood portrait, enjoy a free gelato and panini tasting and socialize with your friends and colleagues!
