Jane
Cullingworth, Executive Director, Skills for Change; Honourable
Mike Colle, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, M.P.P.
Eglinton-Lawrence; and Mario Calla, Executive Director
COSTI |
On Saturday February 4th, Jane
Cullingworth, Executive Director of Skills for Change, spoke at the
20th Annual Renaissance Conference - “Investing in People”.
Jane spoke on a panel with the Honourable Minister Colle (Minister
of Citizenship and Immigration), and Mario Calla (Executive
Director, COSTI). The panel was moderated by Bas Balkisoonn, M.P.P.
for Scarborough Rouge-River.
The panel titled “Investing in our Human Capital” focused on issues
related to the labour market integration of internationally educated
professionals.
The presentations and discussion focused on the barriers – both
individual and systemic - that are experienced by immigrants, and
explored the many solutions and strategies that exist and/or that
need to be developed and strengthened in order to increase
meaningful employment access for immigrants.
The recent signing of federal-provincial agreements in the areas of
immigration and labour market development provided the context for
the discussion.
