Newcomer Services
by Roland Rhooms

On November 21/22, STIC participated in the annual Employment Resource Centre/Information Referral Service Forum at Metro Hall.

Frontline workers heard about programs and services available in the community with an emphasis on Newcomer Services.

Some of the issues discussed included, licensing and accreditation, financial assistance, testing biases, demand for programs, response by government to the demands, and access to accurate information.

The need for more bridging programs, such as the CARE Project, was highlighted.  Feedback focused on the need for all levels of government to work together to develop and implement specific programs aimed at Newcomers and the need to integrate more quickly into Canada's labour market.

Alumni Survey
Are you an SfC graduate? Click here to complete our survey. The SfC Alumni Committee encourages active participation of program graduates in supporting the work of SfC through social events or fund-raising activities and in creating a network for information.
