Calling All SfC Graduates!
The SfC Alumni Committee encourages active participation of program graduates in supporting the work of SfC through social events or fund-raising activities and in creating a network for information.

Are you an SfC graduate? Click here to complete our survey. The Alumni Committee held their first meeting on May 8, 2001.  Since then, a dedicated group of graduates have been meeting each month, sharing ideas, information and experiences in order to promote the mission of SfC. A work plan was developed and as a first step in obtaining feedback from graduates, the Alumni Committee put their heads together and developed a questionnaire to be conducted over the telephone.

The results of the telephone survey indicate that graduates are appreciative of the services provided to them by SfC and are interested in receiving the e-newsletter that would keep them in touch with the agency and provide information on job opportunities. Click here for more information...

The Ins-and-Outs of Retail
by Cristina Pernia, Job Developer

Click for larger view. Grace, Egondu, Mahnaz, Yan, Sungjoo, Julia, Gloria (front)Over the past year, SfC has had the opportunity to work in partnership with Canada’s largest retailer, the Hudson’s Bay Company, and the Toronto Catholic District School Board.  The EPRS (Employment Preparation for Retail Services) program includes a 6-week work placement at various Bay locations throughout the GTA.  Here the students learn the ins-and-outs of what it’s really like to work in retail.

In total, 26 students have completed placements and a number of them have been offered employment at The Bay.  Twenty more students will be starting placements in early November.

Many thanks to The Bay (Sherway, Yorkdale, Bloor, Centrepoint) for their cooperation and support.  Special thanks to Candace Stuart, HR Coordinator at the Bay Sherway, for all her dedication in spearheading this program.  We look forward to enjoying our continued success with The Bay!
