Pioneers for Change: June 5, 2012

Trades Win Support | No cost*

Trades Win Support is a program for internationally trained HVAC mechanics, plumbers, millwrights, carpenters, construction/maintenance electricians and industrial electricians. This 11-week intensive course helps skilled trades people license and become job ready to find work in Ontario. You will learn Canadian industry regulations and trade specific technical language, as well as job search strategies and labour market information.The program includes a six week Certificate of Qualification preparation course taught at Humber College.

Enhanced Language Training | No cost*

Enhanced Language Training is an intensive five week program that helps raise your English proficiency and assists you in finding work in your field. We offer four streams during the year: engineering, accounting, health care, and information technology.  If you are an internationally educated professional, and finding your level of English proficiency is preventing you from holding a position matching your experience, occupation specific language training can help you to get to the next level.

Job Search Workshops are designed to help you access labour market information and learn about hiring practices in your field. The program consists of two modules, each one week long, that will answer your questions about working in Canada and prepare you for the Canadian job market and best job searching techniques.

Workplace Culture and Professional Communication | No cost*

Designed for Employment Ontario Services, this interactive one-week session will put you in touch with a job developer who will individually market you to employers and a counsellor who will provide one-on-one job search coaching.  Through 15 hours of hands-on training, participants will learn to market themselves efficiently by developing and improving their job search tools such as resume, cover letter and interviewing skills. This free workshop will help you increase the effectiveness of your job search efforts. It is offered at our two Employment Services locations.

ESL: Communicating Clearly | $55

Learn to express yourself clearly and confidently. Become familiar with the English pronunciation system and learn to correct your own pronunciation difficulties. This course will help you understand the way English pronunciation works and how it contributes to effective communication. This course is for intermediate ESL learners. Prerequisites: CLB 5-6, live-in caregiver; permanent resident, convention refugee, refugee claimant or Canadian citizen
