The New Pioneers Awards nomination forms are available now. Before nominating, please read the Nomination Criteria.

The nomination for the New Pioneers Awards is a two-part process. One part is filled by the nominator and the second is filled by the nominee. A nomination is complete only when both parts of the form are submitted.

Nomination Criteria

Each nominee must:

1. Be born outside of Canada

2. Have overcome barriers in starting a new life in Canada

3. Demonstrate through their residence, education and/or work and/or community activities a real and substantial connection to the Greater Toronto Area

4. Have made contributions to the immigrant, refugees and / or wider community

5. Be an outstanding achiever

6. Be 16-24 years old or up to 29 if disabled for the youth award nomination

Selected recipients will be honoured at a gala celebratory dinner in early spring 2009



Award Descriptions

Arts
Candidates must demonstrate achievements in their field that focus on the artistic quality of the work, critical acclaim, cultural impact, and community impact.

Community Service
Candidates must demonstrate community contribution and impact through activities (e.g. mentorship, advocacy, and positive change in the community, etc.)

Entrepreneurship
Candidates must demonstrate management skills that have allowed them to excel in their field of business through innovation, business achievements, and community involvement.

Science and Technology
Candidates must demonstrate the significant innovative contributions they have made to the field with regards to promotion, application, and development in Science and Technology. They must also demonstrate their involvement in the community

Youth
Candidates must demonstrate contributions to the immigrant, refugees and/or wider community
made through education and/or work and/or community activities.

Skills for Change Graduate
Candidates must demonstrate involvement in the community and must be a graduate of a Skills for Change program


Terms & Conditions

• Candidates have to be nominated by another person

• Nominators must receive the nominee’s permission to submit the nomination.

• All nominees are subject to a reference check

• All recipients must agree to be publicly recognized and be available to attend the awards evening.

• Information, photographs and video recordings of the recipients will be used by Skills for Change indefinitely either to promote the New Pioneers Awards program or the agency’s work for immigrants and refugees. .

• Only completed forms will be considered.

Skills for Change Board of Directors, staff, steering committee and selection teams cannot nominate for any category except the Skills for Change Graduate Award.
