A mentor can clarify your expectations, talk candidly about what you need to succeed, and in many cases, introduce you to great new people.
If you are engaged in any program at Skills for Change, this option is available to you. We currently facilitate three types of mentoring:
Employment: We partner you with a mentor who will support your career development through a one-on-one relationship. An employment mentor can help you build a network of contacts and gain local insights into your profession.
Language: An English language mentor will give you a chance to practice and improve your language skills.
Settlement: Skills for Change mentors can help navigate Canadian culture and everyday life in Toronto, and introduce you to community resources while improving your communication skills and self-confidence.
Our mentors have at least 2 years of professional experience in their fields with a good grasp of sector-specific insight. They are networked with other professionals and can provide sound advice to their mentees. Our mentors are also open-minded and enjoy interacting with mentees who have come from around the world to make Canada their home.
While our language and settlement mentors do not require professional experience, they have an excellent command of the English language. Language mentors are certified in Teaching English as a Second Language. Settlement mentors are also a great resource when it comes to finding one's way around the city and accessing services we need for every day life.
