Job Preparation for Internationally Trained Accountants and Bookkeepers (ITAB)


Are you an Internationally Trained Accountant or Bookkeeper who is looking for a job in the Accounting or Bookkeeping fields?

Skills for Change in partnership with the City of Toronto - Toronto Social Services Division is offering Job Preparation for Internationally Trained Accountants and Bookkeepers program which is designed for newcomers with experience from their home countries in Accounting and Bookkeeping. Program participants will become familiar with Canadian accounting/bookkeeping, taxation systems and Canadian workplace to enable them to obtain employment in their sectors.

Training includes:
 

  • Review of Bookkeeping/Accounting Principles and System

  • ACCPAC – Version 5.2

  • Simply Accounting 2007

  • Payroll

  • QuickBooks 2007

  • Canadian Taxation

  • MS Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint

  • Business Writing and Office Procedures

  • Workplace Communication

  • Life skills Coaching

  • Labour Market Information

  • Job Search

  • Canadian Work Experience
     

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Currently on Social Assistance

  • Refugee Claimant, Convention Refugee, Landed Immigrant (speaks English as a Second Language or First Language) , Canadian Citizen (born outside of Canada)

  • Eligible to work in Canada

  • Canadian Language Benchmarks level 7

  • Successful completion of basic bookkeeping and typing tests

  • 3-5 years of work experience in accounting or bookkeeping from home country

  • Willingness to commit to entire duration of the program

Monday - Friday, 9am – 5pm

Program Duration
26 weeks, including 5 weeks of placement
