Settlement services provide orientation, information and referals to individuals and families who have recenlty moved to Canada. Settlement services help newcomers settle and integrate in Canada.
An experienced settlement counsellor can provide information and guidance on permanent and temporary housing, child care and children's services, health care, government services (including Ontario Works, immigration, Social Insurance Number, Canada Pension Plan and OSAP loans), legal services, translation, employment, training and adult education programs.
We offer free workshops covering a range of real life issues, such as financial management, legal rights, parenting and stress management. We will connect you with professional organizations and experts knowledgeable in many fields. Workshops are a great way to meet others and share experiences.
The settlement program can also match you with a mentor who can help make settlement easier. A mentor can provide the guidance and support to make your transition process smoother. Mentoring can help with improving communication skills, learning about Canadian culture, and increasing networking opportunities.
