About settlement services

About settlement servicesAt Skills for Change, we provide information, assessment and referrals, and settlement counselling to support your new life in Canada.

Settlement services are offered at 791 St. Clair Avenue West, and can also be arranged at any of our other locations on request. An experienced settlement counsellor can provide information and guidance on permanent and temporary housing, child care and children's services, health care, government services (including Ontario Works, immigration, Social Insurance Number, Canada Pension Plan and OSAP loans), legal services, translation, employment, training and adult education programs.

We run free workshops at all locations, which cover a range of real life issues, such as financial management, legal rights, parenting and stress management. Workshops are are great way to connect with professional organizations and experts knowledgeable in many fields, and to meet new people and share experiences.

Any of our counsellors can register you with Mentoring for Change. A volunteer mentor can provide guidance and support. Mentoring can help you to improve your language skills, learn about Canadian culture, and expand your networks.
