Celebrating Excellence in Mentoring

On September 23 the Mentoring for Employment Program celebrated its 5th annual Mentor Appreciation Evening to say ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers who have made the delivery of this program possible.

The Mentoring Program was pleased to welcome over fifty guests, including mentors, friends and supporters, members of the Board of Directors and staff to this event.

Lenka Petric, of the United Way of Greater Toronto, spoke to the mentors, acknowledging the effectiveness of the Mentoring for Employment Program as a support for internationally-trained professional newcomers in their search for suitable employment.

Wayne Haymer, Dan Karim and William Molson spoke about their experiences as mentors with the program.

Kanchan Joshy, a mentee and a Chartered Accountant from Nepal, related his journey to successful employment in his profession with Deloitte & Touche.

The mentors were presented with a plaque in recognition of their contribution as volunteers with the program.

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) was recognized for its on-going partnership with SfC.  OPG employees actively support the program by volunteering as mentors. Mundy McLaughlin, Director of Diversity accepted a certificate of recognition on behalf of OPG.

Four other organizations were presented certificates of appreciation for supporting newcomers by offering meaningful employment to clients of the program. They were Telehop Communications, Direct Energy, Trillium Consultant Engineers, and Deloitte & Touche.
